Nexus - A Brief History of Information Networks from the Stone Age to AI

I did the audio version of the book. Yuval Harari is an excellent storyteller and always leaves you with an afterthought. Nexus is meant to be a reflection on where humanity is heading, especially with the rise of AI, disinformation, and global instability. But to be honest, I didn’t enjoy it as much. It felt like a lot of repetition and basically a recap of his earlier books. The same themes from Sapiens and Homo Deus kept popping up, just re-worded. Continue reading

Maya Angelou’s autobiography is made up of seven parts. I loved all seven books. Each is unique—an easy yet captivating read. Maya Angelou’s attitude toward life and all she experienced is remarkable. Her stories allow us to learn about the struggles of African American people, especially African American women at that time. They teach us how they survived, laughed, and made the best of life despite immense challenges. Her work reminds us how privileged we are and to better appreciate what life has given us. Homo Deus or Human Gods is a book that discusses what would follow us Homo sapiens as species and the consequences we should be prepared for. It’s an interesting, thought-provoking, and at times, an absurd read. Published in 2016, before the Covid-19 crisis, the Russia-Ukraine conflict, and the recent intensification Israel-Palestine conflict, the book confirms the fragility and uncertainty of the world we live in. Yuval Harari claimed then less than a decade back, that the future will only focus on intellectual wars rather than armed conflicts. Continue reading

Reading this book has been an eye opener. There is so much information I wasnt aware of or had no idea about. The books gives you a information on deindustrialization of India, the reinforcement of caste and religious segregation, the railways and why British brought them to India, the suppression of Indian made goods, and the myth we were made to believe that all that was done was for our good. Why Nations Fail - The Origins of Power, Prosperity, and Poverty

Author: Daron Acemoğlu Publication Date: March 2012

This book is well-researched and contains a lot of information, which made it a bit difficult to keep up with at times. However, it was still a very interesting read. The differences between extractive and inclusive political and economic systems are explained brilliantly. The book effectively demonstrates how one strategy cannot work for the entire world. The expectations of developed countries on developing and underdeveloped countries, as well as their approach to poverty, is a very difficult problem to solve. Continue reading
