Ikigai - The secret Japanese way to live a happy and long life

I did the audio version of the book and I think that was not a very good idea. I got the basic gist, but if you are keen on following the meditation methods mentioned in the last chapters, the paper version would by more practical. The book emphasizes the importance of waking up with a sense of purpose, practicing focused living, and being mindful of your diet and how you treat your body as keys to living a healthy and fulfilling life. Originals - How Non-Conformists Move the World

Author: Adam Grant Publication Date: February 2016

Adam Grant’s books are not your typical self-help guides. I’m often turned off by authors who insist on prescribing perfect habits and practices to become great, awesome, or the best. When I picked up “Originals,” I initially expected it to be another one of those “do this to get that” books. I had made a decision in 2021, to be more open-minded about selfhelp books and not be overly judgmental. I’ve come to realize that there’s always something to learn or rediscover in any book. Finally sat down and read the Sapiens and I loved it. I have to complement the author for making a history book so interesting. I could write a whole book about this book 😊 It gets you thinking and questioning a lot. About religion, about our upbringing, about how we react to things around us, how we should educate our children, the financial system, the political system, the shortcomings, etc etc. Continue reading

A Promised Land - The powerful political memoir from the former US President

It is a unique experience to have the author read to you, and with a voice like Obama’s, it feels good to be read to. There was so much I learned about American capitalism, the advantages, and shortcomings of their political system, social system, and economy. It was very insightful. I think Obama had a good vision; only the country was not ready for him. He would have made the best president and would have done so much for the world in general if he were to be the president in 2028. Continue reading

Lean in - Women, Work, and the Will to Lead

In 2018, a friend introduced me to the Lean In movement during one of our conversations. At the time, I dismissed it as just another American phenomenon—a sort of feminist hype or a gathering where women came together to collectively voice their grievances about perceived disadvantages cause by male counterparts. My perspective on such groups underwent a significant transformation after reading “Invisible Women” by Caroline Criado-Perez last year. It proved to be an eye-opener and a stark wake-up call, making me realize my own naivety and ignorance. Continue reading
