It was an ok book. There were interesting facts that I had never considered, and it was refreshing to acknowledge them.

I liked the examples, such as the campaigns to stop smoking and stop drugs, why they are often ineffective, and how a different approach could be more beneficial. The adolescent mindset, “I am in control of my body now and don’t need telling what to do with it,” made sense.

I haven’t lived in the United States and am not familiar with the school systems there. The youngsters I deal with here in Europe seem to be very self-motivated and pragmatic. All the same, it was a reminder that there is another point of view, and the book presented a telescopic view of things we tend to overlook.

I wouldn’t go so far as calling it a groundbreaking approach. There is a episode on pima https://freakonomics.com/podcast/how-to-help-kids-succeed/ I found the interview interesting.
